Our Demographics Are Changing

Last month we completed our 4th Annual Survey of Older Workers in Canada and posted our report online (see resource links in the upper right of this newsletter). We found that

More people then ever before report that they are fully retired from their full-time career, and this is also reflected in the types of jobs for which older workers are looking. A significant number of people looking for work are looking for work that is the right fit for them whether that's a job in a specific field or a job with increased flexibility in hours.

Our results show that as more and more people retire from full time careers Employers will be challenged to offer Retired Workers the jobs they want to fill the hiring gaps Employers have. This can mean more interesting jobs, or more flexible hours, or better pay or a combination of any of these. It's an exciting time to be a Retired Worker.

What's Coming in 2008

The most requested feature from our Job Seekers by far is for help writing/reworking their resumes. We have been working the past few months with some guidance from a major Canadian recruiting firm on a new system that will help our Job Seekers create resumes that will help them land the jobs they want.

This new feature is scheduled to be launched the 1st of February 2008 but subscribers to the Retired Worker Newsletter will be able to see a working preview of this feature starting January 18th. Stay tuned for the next issue for details.

Happy Holidays from Retired Worker

We'd like to extend our warmest wishes for a happy and safe holiday season to all our readers and site members. We hope that each one of you has a chance over the coming few weeks for some time away from work and some time spent with your families.

See you in the New Year!
