Dept/Health System: Telemedicine Mental Health Nursing - Community Mental Health

Mental Health System - West Toronto*

*The location of any vacancy/position may be changed or reassigned as per operational needs

Key Qualifications:

  • A current annual certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Able to function to the full scope of practice as per the CNO
  • Obtain and Maintain an OTN Certification for providing patient care via telemedicine.
  • Previous experience in working with individuals with mental illness in an out-patient or community mental health setting.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Crisis Intervention, and other brief intervention approaches
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to co-ordinate community resources
  • Experience working with individuals with substance abuse concerns
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients, families and health care providers/teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant medications and their side effects
  • Sound working knowledge of legislation related to mental health care and treatment.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and problem solving skills
  • Basic understanding of the field of telehealth or willingness to learn
  • Comfortable using new technology

Position Summary:

  • As a member of the Mississauga-Halton LHIN Mental Health Nursing Ontario Telemedicine Network Service, the RPN will support care planning and provide brief psycho-social intervention. follow- up and referral services to individuals with mental health concerns via videoconferencing and/or telephone support., The position involves working collaboratively with internal mental health teams, primary care physicians, family health teams and other community health service providers to support the mental health needs of individual patients.

  • Responsible for the delivery of high quality telehealth services

  • Develops internal organizational telehealth policies and procedures as required

  • Promotes telehealth to healthcare professionals, patients and the community

  • Develops expertise in the use and care of the equipment

  • Participates in OTN training sessions as required

  • Assists with program development, implementation and evaluation of this new innovative service.
  • Participates in MH LHIN reporting requirements and OTN evaluation activities as required
