You will have the opportunity to…

  • Perform a variety of technical and professional work in directing and overseeing the compensation, benefits services and strategies delivered to the employees
  • Provide management, organization and leadership support in all functions of pay and benefits

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a payroll function responsible for all payroll entry, payroll reporting and payroll inquiries ensuring timely and accurate preparation and processing of several semi-monthly payrolls for employees across Canada, including new hires, terminations, manual checks, overtime, etc.;
  • Develop, implement and monitor payroll policies and procedures;
  • Implement corporate compensation strategies and total compensation and reward programs that meet and support the needs of the organization while motivating and rewarding employees;
  • Oversee all communication related to payroll – timelines, RRSP contributions, T4s, etc.;
  • Work in cooperation with the HR team in salary adjustment and bonus process preparation and administration and provide support and advice with regard to compensation related topics and issues;
  • Prepare and review the accuracy of journal entries to various cost centers in the GL;
  • Administer and reconcile group benefit programs such as ESPP, Group RRSP, insurances, stock option/bonus/loan programs and others;
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of government remittances to avoid costly penalties;
  • Manage the year-end process – including government filings such as T4/T4A, Releve I, EHT, CSST;
  • Provide leadership to all Payroll staff;
  • Mentor and coach staff for skill enhancement, performance improvement and development;
  • Direct the implementation, modification and ongoing maintenance of HR technology, primarily Payroll systems, performance management systems, organizational charting software, as well as other HR technologies to improve administration efficiency and decision making for the organization;
  • Advise department directors, managers, supervisors and employees on interpretations of compensation policies and practices;
  • Prepare reports for management;
  • Perform cost/benefit analysis to assist management in the preparation of budgets and forecasts;
  • Identify ways to improve payroll efficiencies; and
  • Keep informed of new trends, developments, laws and regulations related to the administration of compensation and benefits.
  • Skills and Experience:

    • Undergraduate degree in a human resources or business related field;
    • Payroll Manager designation from the Canadian Payroll Association;
    • Five or more years of progressively responsible related experience in payroll processing and benefits analysis as well as at least 3 years supervisory/management experience;
    • Knowledge of current trends and practices of compensation and benefits;
    • Payroll based accounting knowledge is required;
    • Previous corporate integration and payroll conversion experience;
    • Ability to plan, direct and administer programs and systems;
    • Ability to prepare and analyze reports;
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management and their own staff;
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Proven management/leadership skills;
    • Ability to research complex issues and develop recommended actions;
    • Ability to plan, delegate, organize and manage the work of self and others;
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills;
    • Understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality; and
    • Is detail-oriented and accurate.
    • Experience with SAP and ADP Pay@Work
